About Us
The Leelah!™ 3D animated series for LGBTQ youth is part of the Pride Against Prejudice project to document the story and movement of fighting prejudice against lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ+) people in the South.
Marriage equality plaintiff and LGBTQ+ activist Gary Wright II tells the struggles of the LGBTQ+ community living in The South fighting for equality, dignity, and acceptance. The limited series follows five Southern teenagers coming to age during the period of marriage equality in America. Although the main characters are fictional, they interact with actual historical characters and their personal stories are based upon true events.
The Pride Against Prejudice Project consists of The Limited Series, and The Movement.
This project was inspired by a young person Leelah who committed suicide. Her last request was: "Fix Society!" and so we hope creating a series with a message for struggling youth with a transgender lead character will help Leelah's final wishes come true.
The series is not about the life of the real Leelah and our characters and town are fictional, but the series is dedicated to her memory.
